Writing For Jesus Day 6

“Someone to Stand in the Gap”

Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Romans 8:34

As I was walking in the mountains praying and singing to the Lord, I happened to look down at just the right moment to see this sweet cross on the ground! It felt like a miracle to me–these two little twigs lying across each other forming a cross! I was stunned! I also love the little green “shoot” at the base of the cross, reminding me that God gives us new birth and new life through Jesus Christ!! God is so faithful!

I love how the Lord can speak into our hearts through little small signs of his love. This was most definitely one of those moments. I felt the love of JESUS so sweetly speaking to me: “I am with you.” Isn’t it beautiful the way Jesus comforts us us when we are weary, lonely or in need an encouragement? Truly, Christ is interceding for us!

Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Romans 8:34

In my time in the Word Today, I read this verse in Ezekiel:

I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.

Ezekiel 22:30

What an unusual verse is scripture this is–because it reminds us of the great need for intercessory prayer warriors! God is calling us today to intercede as prayer warriors for healing, transformation, freedom in Christ and FAVOR to pour down over hearts and lives in Jesus Name!

During Ezekiel’s day, judgement was at Israels’s door because of their wickedness. This verse shows us that God searches for someone to “build up the wall” and “stand in the gap”. What does it mean to “build up a wall” and “stand in the gap”? In that day, walls were built around cities for their protection from enemies or invaders. Standing in by gap, refers to the role of a mediator who stands between two parties to unite them together.

Jesus is our GREAT Mediator and stands in the gap for us interceding for us to the Father. HALLELUJAH!

Romans 8:34

Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

With his death on the cross, Christ stood in the gap for us before the Father, and received punishment for our sins so we could receive his righteousness. Praise the Lord!!❤️

What role do we have as believers, set free by Christ’s death on the cross, and now forgiven, healed and placed in a right relationship with God, to pray for others?

Through intercessory prayer, we are equipped by the power of The Holy Spirit to pray boldly for ourselves and for others!! We see an example of this in Exodus when Moses interceded for the Israelites, resulting in the turning away of God’s wrath:

30 The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a terrible sin, but I will go back up to the Lord on the mountain. Perhaps I will be able to obtain forgiveness for your sin.”

31 So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a terrible sin these people have committed. They have made gods of gold for themselves.

32 But now, if you will only forgive their sin—but if not, erase my name from the record you have written!”

Exodus 32:30-33

This intercessory prayer lead to God turning away his wrath from the Israelites who were sinning in the wilderness.

We also know that prayers of the righteous petition the Lord for help and in some cases may bring about a change, according to God’s will. In Isaiah we read of how King Hezekiah prayed to the Lord for help in his hour of need:

Isaiah 38:1-7

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point is death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amos went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember Lord, how I have walked faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: “Go tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.”

(Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah)

V7 This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised.

What an incredible story of faith and prayer!!

Jesus is our great Mediator and he continues to intercede on behalf of us personally and for the nations for God to exercise mercy. We need mercy, protection and FAVOR NOW more than ever before both personally and as a nation!!

Before becoming a Christian, I had never heard of intercessory prayer. I did not fully understand the power of praying to the Father in the name of Jesus to bring change by faith. I only prayed when I wanted to be comforted or was in need.

Friend, here is what I hope you will understand, as believers we have the great privilege to pray mightily in intercessory prayer for God to move and bring about a change. We are equipped to pray through the power Power of the Holy Spirit!!

In Ezekiel 22:39 we see that God searched for prayer warriors to “stand in the gap” but found none! Let this not be true of us today!! I pray we will rise to the occasion, and pray mightily in the name of Jesus for protection, guidance, breakthrough, favor and increased righteousness, that God may heal our hearts and land!!
