In 2010, through a mighty encounter with the Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, I was supernaturally set free from the deception of Mormonism! Hallelujah!
Since that time, I have been on a quest for TRUTH. It hasn’t been easy, and after being lied to for the first 40 years of my life, I have been reluctant to take anyone’s “word” as truth! My response instead, has been to search the word of God and seek the LORD for HIS TRUTH.
I have scoured over numerous Bibles searching for answers to many questions weighing heavily on my heart.
Finally a year ago, I began reading from a Thomas Nelson Bible. But here is the interesting part: this particular Bible was the FIRST BIBLE the Holy Spirit led me to after coming out of Mormonism! I called it my “KROGER BIBLE” because the Holy Spirit repeatedly spoke over me to “buy THAT Bible” while I was shopping in a Kroger grocery store in 2010!
This experience occurred AFTER my dramatic encounter with the Lord and when I was attending a Christian church. At that time, I wasn’t sure yet, if the Bible I had read from all my life was really the word of God or not…because I was raised in Mormonism and taught that only a Mormon Bible contained “TRUTH”. I was also taught that only a Mormon Bible had been preserved and kept “accurate” and that ALL other Bibles had false teachings, distortions and changes that altered the original meaning of the Bible! In actuality, I now know that the Mormon Church has completely altered the meaning of the Bible…without changing a single word in the actual King James Version Bible they read from…BUT all the cross references take you to Mormon false teachings found in their canon of scripture called the “Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price.” Pretty alarming isn’t it?
And this is where and why the verse in 1 John 2:27 becomes very significant for me personally. After leaving Mormonism, I had no way to truly gauge what was accurate and what wasn’t. But the Holy Spirit, the revealer of ALL truth had filled me when I chose to believe that Jesus is GOD and is ONE with the Father and the Holy Spirit! As I chose to accept the free gift of salvation by grace through faith (Eph 2:4-7) understanding that Jesus died on the cross to save me from my sins, I experienced a downpour of the anointing power of God that SET ME FREE!
I now know that this free gift of salvation by grace through faith AND the infilling of the Holy Spirit offered to me through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ ALONE has enabled me to receive the TRUE POWER of the Holy Spirit enabling me to discern truth and recognize Satan’s counterfeits. Hallelujah!!!
The Holy Spirit has continued to operate in me as a barometer of truth for the past 9 years. There have been many questions and so many opposing doctrines that contradict among churches and denominations…but through it all, the word of God and the whisperings of the still small voice of the Holy Spirit stand FIRM.
What I want you to know is this: the anointing of The Holy Spirit who is ONE with JESUS CHRIST and the FATHER will BREAK EVERY YOKE OF BONDAGE!
2 Tim 1:7 God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of POWER, LOVE and a SOUND MIND. I used to experience crippling fear, but after my encounter with the love, mercy grace and power of Jesus Christ, I am FREE and now enjoy abundant JOY, peace and REST.
What would my life be life today If I had relied on “every wind of doctrine” presented to me and not followed the “unction of the Holy Spirit” over these past nine years? I shudder to think…
Bible commentaries are nice, but not always accurate. Preachers are passionate but not always sincere. Ministers and churches are well intentioned but sometimes misguided. We are all human and carry scars that only Jesus can heal. Let us look to JESUS—who is the TRUE LIVING WORD and receive HIS TRUTH THAT has the POWER to SET US FREE!!!
This is why we don’t necessarily need “teachers” to teach us, but must learn to rely on the illumination of the Holy Spirit to teach us truth revealed through the Word of God: the Holy Bible.
Teachers are only helpful if they themselves WALK WORTHY and are truly living lives of obedience and integrity, who are in a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and who align their teachings with the undefiled WORD OF GOD.
This is my continued prayer for myself, my family and the ministry the Lord has entrusted to me. It’s a fight worth fighting. Don’t compromise TRUTH for anyone or anything—but STAND FIRM until the Lord’s return!
